"We teachers were used and stressed out like slaves, with almost no free time to organize our private activities. We got to school at 7:30am and worked hard till evening. Official closing time was 4:30am (it was a hard-fought battle for the school management to agree to this). But in practice, teachers were so burdened with daily duties and deadlines that could keep each person till.late in the evening at the school premises. I left late in the evenings oftentimes. I suffered serious burnout and other health problems in the process. Teachers cooked, served, washed, and went to the market during major school events, while students were nearly treated like royals. They even threatened to swallow our weekends completely in the name of work. The worst part was that teachers were being forced to write answers for students during SSCE & NECO exams. Examination malpractice was demanded as a rule from teachers by the school authorities, in order to keep their jobs. It became unbearable that I had to leave the abuse of a job."
